Today I did something that makes me uncomfortable: aim for finished, but not perfect, and painting in one session.
Why does this bother me? Easy. I’m a perfectionist at heart. There’s always something new to learn, improvements to be made. I usually end up spending weeks on the last 10-15% of a model. Hence why my backlog is taller than me at this point in my life.
So for tonight’s stream, I challenged myself to try to finish a mini from start to finish. I also wanted to push contrast, and have visible, but colorful, brushstrokes.
Today’s work was “Beyond the Wall” from Kingdom Death.

90m, give or take. There are several mistakes, and I strayed from the box art, but for the most part I’m… well, “happy” might be stretching it, but “content” might be close!
Honestly, even failed painting jobs are useful. I found I like mixing a bit of warm reds/ yellow ochre into brown to liven it up. Likewise, i think i might be getting slowly closer to NMM.
Since this is a model that is pretty often stocked in the KDM store, I’m not too concerned with mistakes. Plus, a painted mini almost always looks better than a non- painted one.
Now, one I’m frustrated with is one that I dropped, broke, and managed to break a few more times. Thank goodness I have a 75m version coming…
