One of my painting buddies enjoys contrast paints for his mechs. Naturally, I wanted to check these out for myself. We’ve all heard what they’re touted to do – basecoat, shade, and highlight all in one.

With the Backlog Blitz coming up on my server next month, I wanted to try out these paints to see if they might help.

Spoiler – They do, I just need more practice with them.

First off, the Marauder:

First, the Marauder. Tried thinning a bit with Citadel medium, but I misjudged and still got pooling in a few areas, and so I decided that I needed to try a bit of a thicker coat. (As someone who routinely over thins her paints, this was a hard thing to try).

Next then, is the King Crab.

This one turned out better, especially with the thicker coat. Still, more practice needed.

All in all, definitely gonna try these for some of the quicker “Oh, we need a lance painted in an hour?!” moments. My favorite mechs will still get the traditional treatment, but this should help with the backlog of shame!
