One of the (many) Discord servers I’m in focuses on miniature painting, and they are hosting a Backlog Challenge, where you picked ten figures and rolled to see which one you’d paint between April and May. This, along with cleaning my hobby room, pointed out the sheer volume of backlog I have. To put it into perspective, I play Kingdom Death, Infinity, Battletech, and now Kill Team. Not to mention backing games like Darkest Dungeon and Bloodborne board games. So…. oof. I’m pretty sure the stack is taller than I am! But, that contest did inspire me….

Enter the Backlog Blitz!

Rules:

Dates: May 1st, 2021 through May 31st, 2021.
Goal: Paint as much as your backlog as you can!
Prize: Pride, accomplishment, serotonin bursts, (maybe a cool server role tag).

1. What counts towards the Backlog Blitz?
   Any model or figure that does not have paint on it prior to May 1st. It can be assembled and primed, but no base coating.
2. What counts as completed?
   The figure must be fully painted. That’s it. It can be any “standard” you want – tabletop, display, etc. You get additional points for it being fully based, but we’re going for models done enough that you can slap it on the table and use it for your games.
3. How do points work?
   The breakdown is pretty simple. The numbers below count for models, vehicles, and most terrain of equivalent size and scale.
   • 1 point for 28mm and below
   • 2 points for anything from 29mm to 75mm
   • 3 points for 75mm and up
   • Additional +1 point if model is fully based as well as painted
   • Exceptionally large models can be considered, and any update to points will be clearly posted here.
   • Terrain: 1 point for small terrain, 3 points for large terrain.
4. How do I receive points?
   Simple! Post the before and after pictures in our Discord server. They can be posted at any time and do not need to be same day posts – for example, if you choose to use April as your “preparation” month, you can assemble, prime, and post the “before” pictures in this channel as early as today. Once a model is completely finished, tag me to get your points!
5. Can I use what I paint in other servers/contests?
   As long as you don’t break the rules of either, then I’m all for that!
